Your Privacy

MyUnionJournal uses state-of-the-art encryption.  Your password is never stored in our systems.  Instead, you enter your password in order to mathematically scramble your private entries.  Then, only your password can ever de-scramble them.  Your journal is encrypted, so you don't have to worry about anyone reading your journal entries. 

Unlike other online systems, MUJ has been carefully designed from the ground up to protect your privacy. A typical system stores your entries as plain text that anyone from the web company that hosts it can read. In fact, many services actively moderate what you are posting. We have designed our system so that it is not possible for us to read your journal, even if we wanted to.  Every safeguard and clever technique of keeping the entries, files, and pictures private has been built into this system from day one, and now you can benefit from it.

In addition to all this encryption, we also collect an absolute minimum amount of information about you.  We don't need it in order to provide you the MyUnionJournal service. We only record the username you choose, your password hint, your birthday (so that the journal can mark your pages with your age as you write *very cool feature*), union affiliation (if any), and your email (which is *only* used to send your password hint). Stay anonymous, stay private. We respect you for it.

Some other clever ways MUJ has created a security presence that differentiates itself from traditional journals and diaries include:

1.  With a traditional journal or diary, you have to hide the physical book somewhere running the risk of someone finding it and reading it.  However, with the MUJ online diary and journal experience only you know your encrypted password to open your account.

2.  With a traditional journal or diary, you run the risk of losing it or it being destroyed in a household accident.  However, with MUJ online diary and journal experience all your entries, photos and documents are securely stored on disaster-proof servers and can be accessed from any web-enabled computing device.

3.  A traditional journal may have a physical key and lock on it (which is typically a cheap lock that can be easily broken), whereas MUJ online diary and journal experience offers you the security-enabled encryption that no one can unlock except you!
